Suggested Items to Bring

You'll have your own must-haves, but here's what tends to make a stay here easier — based on what we do (and don't) keep stocked in the cabin.

The Essentials

  • Coffee. We have a drip pot and a Keurig — bring your preferred grounds or pods. A few complimentary pods are here for your first morning.
  • Extra toiletries. We provide body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. Bring anything else you can't do without.
  • Bug spray for mosquitoes and chiggers — not a problem around the cabin, but you'll want it on the trails. Deep Woods OFF is ideal.
  • Reusable water bottles and, if you like, a few bottles of water. (Our tap water tastes great, though.)
  • Chargers for your phones and personal electronics.
  • Flashlights and spare batteries.

Food & Drink

  • Grilling food. Mountain Man Meat Market is a great stop for steaks (see "On Your Way In").
  • Groceries and staples. Stop at Walmart or Pruett's before you reach town.
  • Snacks and drinks for the crew.
  • Wine. If you're particular, bring your own — local stores don't always carry a wide selection.
  • Storage extras: plastic containers, foil, and wrap for leftovers (foil is also handy for the oven and grill).

Good to Have on Hand

  • A little cash. Firewood stands are cash-only ($5–$15 a bundle), and the trailheads have donation boxes for Friends of Beavers Bend, who keep the trails beautiful.
  • Life jackets if you plan to swim or boat at the lake — a personal preference; rentals are also available from the shops.
  • Firewood — often left behind by previous guests, so check the cabin first before buying more.
Bringing a dog?
Up to 2 dogs (40 lbs and under) are welcome with a $50 fee per dog. If you're bringing a pup, please also pack a crate and poop bags. See House Rules for the full pet policy.

We aim to make the cabin as easy as home. Here's what's waiting for you, so you can leave it off the packing list.

Comfort & Kitchen

  • Hair dryers (in full baths)
  • Towels, linens, plus plenty of blankets and pillows
  • All basic pots, pans, and cooking utensils
  • Plates, glasses, and bottle openers
  • A long lighter for the firepit

Starter Basics

We stock enough of these to get most trips started. If you expect to go through more, bring extra:

  • 2 kitchen trash bags
  • Dish soap & sponges
  • 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom
  • 2 rolls of paper towels
  • 2 dishwasher pods
  • 2 laundry pods
  • Cooking spray, olive oil, salt & pepper

On Your Way Into Town

A few worthwhile stops as you drive in — grab these before you settle at the cabin.

Firewood

You'll find several firewood stands on the right-hand side of Hwy 259 heading into Broken Bow / Hochatown — you can't miss them. Most are cash only, so bring $5–$20. In a pinch, the gas station usually sells it and takes cards.

Mountain Man Meat Market

An excellent stop for steaks and sides — about 2 miles south of where you turn off Hwy 259 toward the cabin. Address is in the Grocery Stores resource section.

Groceries

Pruett's in Broken Bow is your full grocery stop; Walmart nearby carries dry goods only (both about 20 minutes out). For hand-cut steaks and prepared foods, Local 259 is a high-end mini-grocery in Hochatown, north of the house — though it doesn't have a full produce section.

Fishing License

Planning to fish? You'll need a license. Grab one at Walmart, or make the easy stop at Bruton's Outdoors on the right-hand side of 259 as you enter Hochatown, just north of the cabin.

Getting In & Around

Locking the Doors

Please lock all doors whenever you leave the cabin. At the front door, simply press the lock button on the keypad. Your entry code is sent just before check-in.

A/C tip
Leaving an exterior door open for more than 5 minutes will pause the air conditioning. It resumes automatically once the doors are shut.
05

The Kitchen

Fully set up with the basics for cooking and gathering. We don't stock food or spices beyond salt and pepper — pick up your essentials on the way in. The tap water tastes great.

What's Stocked

Guests sometimes leave extras behind, so you may find more than what's listed.

  • Plates, bowls, glasses & wine glasses
  • Silverware; plastic plates & cups
  • Coffee filters; starter coffee pods, tea, creamer & sweetener
  • Wine bottle openers
  • Knives, spatulas, tongs, peeler, grater
  • Blender, toaster, handheld mixer
  • Large crockpot
  • Sauté pans & pots
  • Cookie sheets & muffin tins
  • Cutting board & mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups; baking dishes (9×10)
  • Colanders, potholders & kitchen towels
06

Grilling

Two options, both near the firepit and deck. Barbecue tools are in the kitchen cabinets.

Charcoal Grill

A big park-style charcoal grill sits close to the firepit. Charcoal / briquettes are not provided, so bring your own.

Gas Grill (on the deck)

A standard 5-burner gas grill is on the deck outside the living area. Open the gas line before lighting:

1
Make sure the yellow main valve is open — turned vertically, in line with the gas pipe.
2
Turn the red timer dial clockwise to your desired time. The timer is a safety switch: if the grill is ever left on, it shuts the gas off to help prevent a fire.
3
Light and cook just like any standard grill.
4
When you're done, turn off the burners and close the yellow main valve.
07

Firepit

  • limited firewood is provided during winters and is stored in a black box near the fire pit. Because wood left outdoors can get wet or go missing, we can't always guarantee a full supply — grab a bundle on your way in if you want to be sure.
  • The long lighter is in the kitchen drawer next to the fridge.
  • Please make sure the fire is completely out before you turn in.
  • Cornhole is on the deck and horseshoes are set up in the dirt near the firepit and barbecue.
Please don't
Remove or dispose of ashes from the firepit — it's an extreme fire hazard. Just leave them in place.
08

Hot Tub

Cleaned, filled fresh, and heated for your arrival. Navy-blue hot tub towels are in a basket by the rear sliding door to the patio.

Using It

  • There are four buttons: lights, jets, and two for temperature. It should already be on and warm.
  • Because we fully drain and sanitize it before every stay, it may take a little longer to reach your ideal temperature.
  • Keep the cover on when it's not in use — otherwise it won't hold heat.
  • When you finish, turn off the lights and jets. A little low-pressure jetting afterward is normal — that's just heated water circulating.
  • If it seems off, check the grey breaker box on the exterior wall of the living room.
Please note
Always supervise children around the hot tub. Don't stand on the cover, and keep it on when the tub isn't in use. For stays longer than 2 days we provide hot tub chemicals (under the kitchen sink) — please keep these and their measuring cups well away from children.
09

Fireplace & Fans

Fireplace

The fireplaces do not operate in summer (April 1 – October 1). In winter, please leave the pilot lit — it's meant to stay on — and simply turn the fireplace off when not in use. The living room fireplace remote is on the right side of the fireplace.

Fans

  • Indoor fans run on remotes — please keep each remote in its holder so it doesn't wander off.
  • Balcony fans off the bedrooms are controlled by switches inside the bedrooms, next to the balcony doors.
10

Laundry

There are two washers and dryers in the laundry room downstairs, at the end of the walkway. A few complimentary pods are provided to get you started; if you need more, pick some up at EZ Mart in Hochatown or Walmart in Broken Bow. Please don't overstuff the machines.

11

WiFi & TV

WiFi

The network name and password are posted in the cabin and shared at check-in.

Smart TVs

All TVs are smart TVs — sign in to your favorite streaming apps and watch your own shows. Just remember to log out of your accounts before you check out.

12

Bathrooms & Toiletries

There are 6.5 bathrooms, each stocked with 4 sets of towels, hand towels, washcloths, and makeup-remover cloths.

What You'll Find

  • Shower: shampoo, conditioner, and body wash
  • Sink: antibacterial hand soap, plus a hair dryer in full baths
  • Toilet: 2 rolls of toilet paper and a plunger, just in case

Need more towels? Check under the sink, or feel free to use the washer and dryer.

Septic system — important
Only toilet paper goes in the toilets. No flushable wipes, feminine products, or excess paper — the septic system will fail. It's also built for up to 24 people at a time, which is why we hold firmly to our 24-guest maximum. Thanks for understanding.
13

Games & Entertainment

Rainy day? We've got you covered — or bring your own favorites.

  • Board games in the game room closet
  • A retro arcade machine upstairs with 3,000+ games, from Pac-Man to Donkey Kong
  • A pool table, shuffleboard, and a cards table
  • Cornhole on the deck and horseshoes by the firepit
14

Trash

  • Two outdoor bins sit by the road. Pickup is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • The kitchen trash can is in the cabinet to the left of the sink, with extra bags inside.
  • Please don't overstuff the outdoor bins, and make sure the lids are fully shut — we have plenty of critters who love to go digging for dinner.
15

House Rules

A few things that keep the cabin great for you and for the guests who follow.

Pets

Up to 2 dogs, 50 lbs and under, are welcome with a $50 fee per dog. Please don't leave pets unattended, and note that guests are responsible for any damage caused by their pets. A crate and poop bags are a must.

Smoking

This is a smoke-free home. No smoking or vaping of any kind inside the cabin — a $500 smoke-removal fee applies if this rule is broken. Smoking on the decks is also not permitted. If you'd like to smoke, please use the front or back yard and dispose of butts (fully extinguished) in the trash. An extra cleaning fee applies if cigarette butts are found anywhere on the property, including the firepit.

Security Cameras

You'll notice exterior cameras at the entrances — covering the front parking area and staircase and the back door. They never view guest living areas. They're there to protect the property between stays, confirm that only registered guests and pets are present, and help keep everyone safe. Tampering with the cameras may result in eviction.

Firearms & ATVs

No shooting
Absolutely no shooting anywhere near the cabin. Despite the surrounding woods and deer, this is a neighborhood of hundreds of cabins and not a legal hunting area. If you've brought hunting rifles, please use designated legal hunting areas.

Only licensed drivers may operate ATVs in the neighborhood. No one under 16 without a license may drive them — violators will be ticketed.

Furniture & Décor

  • If you move any furniture, please return it to its original spot before you leave.
  • Please leave linens, towels, cleaning supplies, remote batteries, laundry/dishwasher pods, DVDs, games, and dishes in the cabin. Our housekeeper checks inventory every clean, and missing or broken items are charged to the card on file.
  • Please don't take blankets from the living room or bedrooms outdoors.

Breakages

Accidents happen! If you break something, just let us know right away. Minor items usually aren't charged. For anything larger (a TV screen, say), we'll agree on the cost with you before you leave so there are no surprises later. Communication is everything — thank you.

Safety & Bugs

Under the Kitchen Sink

You'll find a fire extinguisher and a small first-aid kit. In any emergency, dial 911 immediately.

Bugs — You Are in the Woods

The cabin is treated for pests monthly, and the beds are treated for bed-bug prevention — but we can't control the great outdoors. A few tips:

  • Keep doors shut, especially at night, to keep bugs out.
  • In November and early December, wasps look for warm spots around the rooftops. They rarely bother people, but don't leave doors open then or you may get some uninvited cabin-mates.
  • There's a fly swatter and Raid under the kitchen sink.
  • Keep food off the counters where you can (near the fridge is fine) to avoid ants.
  • Heading out to the trails? Wear Deep Woods OFF — chiggers are the most common pest at Beavers Bend. There's even a bar in town named after them.
